User context:

From teacher interviews across Asia, the UK, and Australia, we learned that many classrooms operate without 1:1 student device access. Teachers relied heavily on paper-based assessment, which was slow, manual, and disconnected from their digital workflows.

Key insights:

• Teachers liked projecting questions digitally but needed a way for students to record answers offline.
• They sought fast grading and synced reporting—just like digital quizzes.
• Ideal tools had to be easy to print, scan under real-world conditions, and require minimal training.

2. Ideation & Feature Definition

Solution concept: paper-based response cards (Q-cards) with QR codes - letting students indicate A, B, C, or D answers by rotating the card.

Core features defined:

1. Printable Q-cards: personalized with unique QR IDs, easy to reuse and distribute.
2. Live session mode: teachers launch Paper Mode via Quizizz’s “Start” button in session modes
3. Aruco code scanning: mobile app scans student answers via camera as questions are projected .
4. Instant syncing: responses populate live leaderboards and reports instantly.
